Comparison

Squarespace is known for polished templates, with hosting and SSL on every plan and sound SEO basics. It suits a small practice that wants a good-looking site and is happy to edit it. A managed site suits a firm that needs more structure than a template gives, a page per matter type, office and attorney, and wants a studio to write and maintain it.

What it is

Squarespace is a website builder with designed templates. All plans include fully managed cloud hosting and SSL; annual plans include a free domain for the first year. Its SEO features include custom meta titles and descriptions, automatic sitemaps, structured data markup and custom redirects.

Squarespace offers Extensions for third-party add-ons and a Marketplace of independent experts. Its export produces a WordPress-format file, and Squarespace notes that many page types cannot be exported.

01

Polish is not the same as structure

A Squarespace template can make a firm look established on day one. The work that follows is structural: a page for each matter type the firm takes, an office page for each location, a profile per attorney that links to both, and intake that routes by those same rules. That structure is what we design, and what keeps working as the firm grows.

02

Editing is easy; keeping current is the job

Squarespace makes edits straightforward. The recurring task at a firm is remembering and writing them: admissions, office moves, fee changes, new pages. On a managed plan you send a sentence and the studio publishes it within the week.

03

Export limits, stated plainly

Squarespace documents that its export covers some content but not many page types. If you might move later, plan for a rebuild. On our plans the firm keeps its domain and receives an export of its content and articles on cancellation.

Be honest

  • You run a small practice and want a polished site you can edit yourself.

  • Your site is a few pages and changes rarely.

  • You like choosing and adjusting a template visually.

And when we are

  • You need a page for every matter type, office and attorney, linked into one structure.

  • You want intake routed by matter type, location and urgency into your CRM.

  • You want the writing and weekly updates done for you.

Switching, or using both

A move from Squarespace is a planned rebuild with redirects.

  1. 01We inventory every page and post, including those the export would miss.
  2. 02We rebuild the pages worth keeping on the new structure, write the missing matter type and office pages, and map 301 redirects.
  3. 03At launch the domain points to the new site; we check search console, and your Squarespace plan can end.

In their words

  • Our after-hours calls used to go to voicemail and get returned the next afternoon. Now the phone is answered, the details are in our CRM with a summary, and the attorney who handles that matter type sees it first thing.

  • People looking for a defense lawyer are on their phone and they are not patient. The old site made them wait. This one opens straight away and the call button is right there on every page.

  • Most of our inquiries come in the evening, often by text. The chat and SMS agents take the details, never comment on the case, and book the consultation with the right attorney. Our team starts the day with a clean list.

Questions about Squarespace and AttorneyWebStudio

01Is Squarespace a good choice for a law firm?

For a small practice that wants a polished site and is happy to edit it, it can be. Hosting, SSL and SEO basics are included. Firms with several offices or attorneys usually outgrow what a template and occasional edits can keep accurate.

02Does Squarespace do schema markup?

Squarespace lists structured data markup among its SEO features. Our sites generate LegalService, LocalBusiness per office, Person, Service, FAQPage and BreadcrumbList from the same data as the page.

03Can we export our Squarespace site to you?

Partly. Squarespace exports a WordPress-format file and notes that many page types are not included. We rebuild pages rather than import them, and redirect every old URL.

04Will our new site look as good as a Squarespace template?

We design a system for your firm, with its own type, color and layout, applied to every page. It is made for your firm rather than chosen from a gallery.

05Who updates attorney bios and office hours?

On Squarespace, the firm. On our plans, the studio, as weekly detail updates that do not count as revisions.

06Can a Squarespace expert maintain it for us?

Yes, Squarespace has a Marketplace of independent experts. Ask what they charge for ongoing updates and writing, and compare that with a plan that includes both.

07Which costs less?

Squarespace plans cost less per month than ours, which start at $137. Ours include design, writing, weekly updates, routed intake and hosting, so compare against what you would pay people to do those.

08Do you offer the AI receptionist on Squarespace?

Our AI Engine comes with our own sites on Multi-Attorney and Multi-Office; we do not install it on third-party builders.
